This Executive Briefing is designed to provide leaders and executives from
a single organization with a solid understanding of Congress and executive branch agencies and strategies
that work to further legislative goals.
Because this program is tailored for the attendees, sessions can include attending a congressional hearing
if Congress is in session, discussion of presenting congressional testimony,
and congressional budgeting.
This is a Sample
Agenda: The first session defines the dynamics of policymaking and what drives today’s legislative process: politics, policy, and procedure.
We discuss why knowing the procedure is integral to influencing congressional action action and highlight points in the process where it is critical to act. During the second session,
we review how a bill becomes a law and the work of committees. The next session focuses on tools and techniques for effective advocacy,
providing practical tips on how to make the most out of meetings with Members of Congress and Hill staff and how to follow up after meetings.
The second day can concentrate on the work of federal agencies and the rule making process,
reviewing the rule making process and offering insight on how to advance your
organization's role in the process.
Briefing materials include the then-available Congressional Directory, the Training Edition of Persuading Congress, and the Training Edition of the award-winning Congressional Deskbook.
This briefing is designed for
